Pediatric Dermatology-2016 mainly focuses on disseminating the knowledge in the field of pediatric dermatology.

Importance & Scope: The Society for Pediatric Dermatology, organized in 1975 focuses on promoting and encouraging the care, education, and research of skin disease in children. Initially most pediatric dermatologists faced limited employment opportunities and were treating children only as a small portion of their practice, this field has grown over the past 20 years to become an established domain. Although most of the dermatologists continue to see both children and adults, the need for pediatric dermatologists is significant and as a result, pediatric dermatology has established itself as an important subspecialty of dermatology.

In the four decades ever since its origin, pediatric dermatology has witnessed an intense evolution and growing clinical demand. Nurturing interest in pursuing a career in pediatric dermatology to fill the current provider shortage is important for the future of this field. Finally, alternative training pathways such as the development of pediatric dermatology fellowships and certificates of added qualifications for pediatricians may be options to meet the pediatric dermatology workforce shortage.
